large product photo   Why encasements are important.

Bed Bugs can and will nest anywhere in your home and they can go for really long periods between feeding. But far and away, the most common nesting area is near to wherever you sleep, including on and in your mattress and box springs.  So while you might have one here or there - you can have dozens to hundreds on and in your mattress set.

A good encasement can keep them from nesting in or on your mattress and is one of the most important aspects of any control program.

The type of encasement you buy matters.
Box spring encasement

In real world tests by industry experts, most brands of mattress encasements don't work. Only two were found to keep out Bed Bugs.

Bed Bugs are the big thing right now, there are lots of encasements on the market.  Most of them don't work for the following reasons:

The fabric has a weave that is too large and lets Bed Bugs hatclings crawl through and lets Bed Bugs from inside the encasement bite you through the encasement.

The zipper teeth do not fit closely together and allow bed bugs to crawl in and out.

The zipper does not close tightly and allows bed bugs to crawl in and out.

And finally:

The fabric is too plasticky and it rips and tears after a few days to weeks and is therefore useles..
