Hobo Spiders   Black Widow Spiders

Brown Recluse Spiders

House Spider

There are three related species of funnel web spiders that all look alike, and have very similar coloring /markings in our area.

They are dark colored with a chevron type pattern on the visible top side, and they have dark furry legs.

These spiders look so much alike they need to be sent to a specialist for proper identification.

Researchers tell us that the Hobo Spider is not supposed to be poisonous but it can carry bacteria that mimics the bite of the Brown Recluse Spider - causing open sores.

Black Widow

Black Widow Spiders are not supposed to be in our area although they can be found in Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon.

While they can be shipped in, they are not supposed to be able to reproduce or thrive in our area.

There are several species of spiders here which look similar and some that are closely related, but none that carry the same toxic venom.

However our service for spiders is very thorough and will control most spiders in and on a structure.

Brown Recluse

A major university study found no incidence of Brown Recluse Spiders in our area.

These spiders are prolific breeders and where you have even 1 - you have hordes.

We do have Hobo Spiders here and they can carry a bacteria that causes a form of flesh eating disease and wounds may be diagnosed, from visual evidence, as being caused by Brown Recluse Spiders.

A great number of other skin ulcerations and infections are also misdiagnosed as Brown Recluse Spider bites.

Treatment Programs

Non-Toxic Alternatives

Spiders get to homes in two major ways:  They crawl across some connecting medium, either the ground, tree limbs (or other vegetation), fences, or some other physical connection; and they balloon.

Ballooning is when young spiders let out web strands and then wait for the wind to pick them up and disperse them via the air currents.  Wherever they land they set up shop.

Treating the exterior to control and prevent spiders is our most thorough treatment service.

To control crawling spiders we treat the ground, exposed foundations, the base of the siding, around connecting vegetation, fences, and etc...

To control ballooning spiders we treat the eaves.

We also treat the areas where spiders like to hang webs, in addition to your eaves, we treat around doorways, windows, railings, Attached fences, and overhangs, etc...

While some people just call us out once or twice a year, the very best control is achieved though a quarterly control program.

The very best control materials are ultra low in toxicity but are also highly repellant to spiders.  They last about 90 days per application.

(Ultra low toxicity - as in up to 40 times less toxic than caffeine.)

Regular periodic reapplication keeps the problem to a minimum.

The most important aspect of a quarterly control program is the ability of the control materials to repel spiders.

A quarterly control program can also help control other pests.  For instance:  A spider control program will greatly reduce the number of wasps around our home.

The control materials we use around the outside are over 99% natural and are ultra low in toxicity.

If your home is on a quarterly service program it may be possible to control up to 85 or 90% off all spiders without making any applications to your inside living space.

For those homes that still experience some interior activity, we can install spider traps.

Spider traps contain no toxicants and can be placed in almost any room.

They fit under beds and many other kinds of furniture.

They are especially good at catching house spider that run around at night.  When they get full it is a simple matter of throwing them away and putting out new ones.

We can check these traps and supply news one at no extra charge during our regular quarterly service visits.
